Newsletter #10

This past weekend I took my camera to the Illinois Deer and Turkey Classic but i never got it out of the case. Sure there were big bucks there, and every novelty that a hunter could want and a couple hundred that have no business in the woods. I don't know if it's that i am getting older, wiser, or cheaper, i hardly spent a dime at the show this year or last! I enjoyed seeing many old friends and sharing stories and learning from their experiences and that was about it. so as i got back home and fired up the newly refurbished (old computer that just had major brain surgery) and reflected on the pictures from this last season, here is what i found.

A picture is worth a thousand words but sometimes one word sums it up for me! Video is great and tells a fine story but sometimes a single picture lets our mind roam and wonder what could or could not be......... and that's what keeps me fired up for next season.

Tweener, is what this is……. The season we are currently in! We are between one deer season and the next. It’s time to look at stand placement, look for shed antlers, scout deer trails and do some low impact scouting while watching them from afar……. kind of reminds me of high school basketball and baseball……. It was just something to get you through until football season again

While not everyone is obsessed with deer like I am, I realize there are other activities,
such as prime ice fishing these big ole’ slab blue gills caught by Matt Dittbenner…………
I don’t remember getting a call for a fish fry? Or where they were caught?

If sitting on the ice doesn’t do it for you there is always the illusive coyote!
This dandy was trapped by master trapper Chad Schieler last month….. they are still
huntable as there is open season to hunt them year ‘round.

While I enjoy all the outdoor sports, nothing captures my thoughts more than whitetails.
Past seasons hunting pictures and prospects for next year on trail cameras help get me through the long cold Illinois winters.

Here is a dandy buck Don Knott took in northern IL. during the 08’ gun season

And here is a deer that will be even bigger next year
Philippe Boland has been passing the little guys for a few years now and is reaping the rewards… he must be hand feeding these big boys …… or hunting near the Illinois River!
Either way he is doing something right

Until next time
Take care, stay warm and GOD bless
